SEPTEMBER 19 – 28 | NEW YORK CITY
Ocean-based carbon removal
at Climate Week NYC 2025
Climate Week NYC brings together a crucial mix of existing and new leaders from the world of business, tech, politics, academia, and civil society that have the means, the scale, and the ideas to take bold climate action. It takes place alongside the annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Meeting, which will draw world leaders to explore solutions for peace, security, and sustainable development.
This year, Climate Week NYC will be held from September 21-28.
To support our partners in their continued research and advocacy on oCDR, Carbon to Sea has compiled the list of known events related to carbon removal and carbon markets. If you know of or are hosting an event that should be added to this list, contact Danny Gawlowski, danny@carbontosea.org.
Multiple members of the Carbon to Sea team, including Global Policy Director Diane Hoskins and Strategy and Partnerships Director Irene Polnyi, will be attending Climate Week NYC. We would love to connect if you are coming to New York. Meeting requests can be sent to Aarthi Ananthanarayanan, aarthi.ananth@gmail.com.

- Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture: Research Through Deployment Session 2
- 10:30 – 11:45am at The Yale Club – 50 Vanderbilt Ave, New York, NY 10017
- Many open research questions relating to whether and how to scale carbon dioxide removal (CDR) cannot be answered via small-scale field trials but rather require deployment at increasing project scales to build external validity of evidence. Because traditional research funding cannot support these scaled deployments, YCNCC scientists have taken the innovative step to partner with corporate CDR credit buyers to leverage their sustainability investments to incorporate research objectives and data transparency requirements into their commercial CDR offtake purchases. This session will explore how this “Research Through Deployment” can help advance efforts to achieve high-integrity monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) for enhanced weathering and other geochemical CDR that is financially operable at scale.

- Leveraging Carbon Markets to Fight Super Pollutants
- 1:00 – 2:15pm at The Yale Club – 50 Vanderbilt Ave, New York, NY 10017
- We must address all greenhouse gases and pollutants contributing to global warming—not just carbon dioxide (CO₂). While CO₂ remains a key focus due to its long-term impact, other highly potent warming agents, known as super pollutants, are accelerating atmospheric warming at a much faster rate. These include methane, black carbon, hydrofluorocarbons, and tropospheric ozone. Super pollutants are responsible for approximately half of the warming observed today.
