Laura StieghorstScience Program Associate
Laura Stieghorst is the Science Program Associate for the Carbon to Sea Initiative, where she works to advance an R&D agenda focused on answering high-priority questions about the safety and efficiency of ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE).
Before joining in a full-time role, Laura worked with Carbon to Sea as a scientific consultant to lead the 2025 Research Fellowship program, support the Halifax Joint Learning Opportunity, and develop the largest publicly-available database of OAE research.
Prior to her work as a consultant, Laura led a student research group at the University of Miami studying the dissolution kinetics of OAE and its impact on coral growth and resilience. This research was funded through her award-winning proposal to the XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition. She was also a researcher for the Global Ocean Ship-based Hydrographic Investigations Program (GO-SHIP), studying pH along the Northern Atlantic Transect. She is a member of the founding cohort of the 776 Fellowship and the Aspen Institute’s Future Climate Leaders fellowship.
Laura holds a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Miami and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
