Last week, Carbon to Sea’s Senior Manager of Policy, Priyanka Hooghan, attended Innovate Cordova, hosted by U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK). The invite-only conference in Cordova, AK brought together public, private, and philanthropic leaders to highlight how scientific innovation and economic development strategies could support coastal communities.
Over the course of the weekend, Carbon to Sea engaged with leaders across community organizations, government, and industry on the latest research and policy developments related to a variety of topics ranging from microgrids to economic development strategies.
The conference also included a discussion on ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (oCDR) and the ReSCUE Oceans Act – a landmark bipartisan bill to strengthen American leadership in oCDR research.
Expert panelists from Ocean Visions, Carbon180, the Native Village of Eyak, the Prince William Sound Science Center, and Growing Oceans offered valuable insights into federal activity for oCDR, the current challenges faced by coastal communities, the potential value of the ReSCUE Oceans Act, and oCDR research currently being conducted in the region.
Carbon to Sea was honored to join this gathering of leaders for a weekend of collaboration and conversation to foster cross-sectoral awareness, engagement, and investment in opportunities for coastal communities.
