Climate Week NYC brings together a crucial mix of existing and new leaders from the world of business, tech, politics, academia, and civil society that have the means, the scale, and the ideas to take bold climate action. It takes place alongside the annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Meeting, which will draw world leaders to explore solutions for peace, security, and sustainable development.

This year, Climate Week NYC will be held from September 20-27.

      • Who owns, profits from, and governs our ocean’s future? In this episode of Science & Society, we delve into questions of industrializing the ocean, including deep sea mining and offshore renewable energy infrastructure, touching on scientific, social, and policy aspects.       • Building on the groundbreaking science-based guidance for the seafood sector launched last year, this event will showcase a new effort to develop holistic, science-based targets covering all ocean sectors, including offshore wind, tourism, shipping, and ports. The discussion will explore why credible, science-aligned action is essential for safeguarding ocean health and highlight companies already working to address their impacts and dependencies on nature.       • The Institute for Policy Integrity’s annual conference, during NYC Climate Week, will focus on progress and possibilities for the energy transition in the current political landscape, and strategies for generating support from diverse constituencies.     • CDR Durability Performance in Net Zero Claims

      • This workshop seeks to help resolve market frictions and accelerate CDR towards playing its needed role in climate change mitigation by proposing performance-based durability requirements for CDR in net zero claims. This workshop will offer a space to discuss open questions around defining performance requirements, with the goal of generating areas of alignment across the CDR ecosystem.     • Bending the Climate Curve

      • As interest grows in the ocean’s capacity to store carbon, so does the need for knowledge-based approaches that are guided by strong ethical and governance frameworks. This event will explore the state of emerging methods to enhance the ocean’s natural carbon sink, in particular phytoplankton-based approaches. Our panel of experts will discuss how diverse approaches can inform responsible innovation and implementation, as well as the guardrails needed to guide field trials and future action while safeguarding our shared ocean. For early arrivals there will be an opportunity to network over a light breakfast, with the panel discussion scheduled for 9:30am-11:00am. Afterwards there is further networking time until noon.
