Carbon to Sea is proud to sponsor the launch of a new “Communication Leaders” program led by COMPASS, aimed at supporting ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (oCDR) experts who want to meaningfully engage with policymakers, funders, media outlets and local communities about this fast-growing ocean-climate field.
Now is a crucial moment to build and professionalize our field — oCDR has received increased attention from press and policymakers as a potentially high-impact solution to urgently drawdown legacy emissions, at the same time as more oCDR research projects are pursuing permits for field trials. To successfully navigate this landscape, it is crucial to support oCDR scientists and experts who can serve as a reliable source of information and foster responsible and well-informed discussions.
The new Communication Leaders cohort will serve as a network of support to bring together oCDR experts and build their capacity to engage effectively with a range of audiences. Cohort members will receive insights and hands-on feedback on how to become trusted experts on oCDR for public audiences. There will also be opportunities for interested members to collaborate and participate in opportunities to communicate directly with key external stakeholders.
COMPASS is looking for scientists, researchers, and practitioners from diverse backgrounds, fields and career stages who are dedicated to leadership and collaboration in the oCDR space to participate in this new program. We look forward to seeing this first cohort come together over the coming weeks and to working with COMPASS to unlock new communications capacity for oCDR.
