Dr. Antonius GagernExecutive Director

Dr. Antonius Gagern is the Executive Director of the Carbon to Sea Initiative. In 2021, Antonius launched the Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement R&D Program within Additional Ventures and then spun out Carbon to Sea in 2022 as a multi-funder effort.

Prior to Additional Ventures and Carbon to Sea, Antonius directed the ocean carbon removal work at CEA Consulting, advising foundations on strategy and grantmaking in this field. Before his work on carbon removal, Antonius was a natural resource economist focused on fisheries and marine conservation in the tropics, as well as on climate-smart agriculture. 

Antonius holds degrees in Biology (BSc.), Marine Ecology (MSc.), and Natural Resource Economics (PhD). He lives in Berlin.
